Hello there, and welcome back. I’m Doctor Trish Wolff, your host of Healing Naturally, and I am so glad you’re here with me today. I’m excited, I’m energized, and I am genuinely optimistic that we can change the way we feel — one small choice at a time. That’s what this show is all about. And today, we’re talking about something that might just be the simplest, most powerful thing you can do for your body. We’re talking about small daily movements — and how they can actually protect you from chronic pain down the road.

Now, here’s the thing. When most people think about preventing pain, they picture long workouts, stretching routines, maybe a gym membership they haven’t used in three months. And I get it. Life is busy. But what I want you to understand today is that it doesn’t have to be complicated. In fact, some of the most protective things you can do for your spine and your joints take less than a minute.

Let me break this down for you. Your body is designed to move. It is not designed to hold one position for hours at a time. And yet — that’s exactly what most of us do. We sit at a desk, we sit in a car, we sit on the couch. And when we stay still for too long, something really important starts to happen inside our joints and our muscles. The fluid that cushions your discs and your joints — it needs movement to stay healthy. Think of it like a sponge. When you move, that sponge gets squeezed and refreshed. When you stay still, it dries out. And dried-out tissues become stiff, irritated, and eventually — painful.

Here’s what’s interesting. Chronic pain rarely shows up all at once. It builds slowly, quietly, over weeks and months of the same patterns repeated over and over. A stiff neck here. A tight lower back there. Tension that never fully goes away. That’s your body sending you signals — little warnings that it needs more movement, more variety, more circulation to those areas.

So what can you actually do about it? This is where I want to encourage you, because the answer is genuinely simple. Start by breaking up your stillness. If you’re sitting, set a reminder to get up and move around every thirty to forty-five minutes. You don’t need to do a full workout. Just stand up. Walk to the other room. Roll your shoulders back. Tilt your head gently side to side. These little resets tell your nervous system — hey, we’re alive, we’re moving, everything is okay.

Another thing I love recommending is what I call intentional transitions. Every time you move from one activity to another — standing up from a chair, getting out of the car, walking into a building — use that moment. Take a breath. Straighten your spine. Roll your shoulders back. Lift your chin just slightly. You’re already transitioning, so use it. Those little moments add up to dozens of micro-corrections throughout your day.

And drink your water. I know, you’ve heard it before. But hydrated tissues are flexible tissues. Your discs, your muscles, your fascia — they all depend on hydration to function well and recover quickly.

Now, if you’ve been dealing with stiffness, aching, tension that just won’t quit — I want to gently encourage you to come in and get evaluated. Sometimes small movements aren’t quite enough because something in the spine is already restricted or out of alignment. That’s where chiropractic care can make a real difference. We can find those stuck areas, restore proper motion, and help your body do what it was built to do.

You don’t have to wait until the pain becomes unbearable. In fact, I’d love to see you before it gets to that point.
