Hello, and welcome back. I’m your host of Healing Naturally, Doctor Trish Wolff of Natural Ways Chiropractic, right here in Roseville, Minnesota. I am so excited, and genuinely energized, to be with you today. Because I truly believe — with everything I do — that we can improve our health, moment by moment, with the choices we make every single day. And today’s topic is one that is really close to my heart.

We’re talking about what chiropractors actually do. Because there are so many myths floating around out there — and honestly, some of them keep people from getting the help they really need. So let’s clear the air.

Now, here’s the thing I hear all the time. People think chiropractors just crack backs. That’s it. You come in, we twist something, it pops, and you’re done. But that couldn’t be further from the truth. What we’re really doing is something called a chiropractic adjustment. And the goal of that adjustment is to restore proper movement and alignment to the joints of your spine — and honestly, joints throughout your whole body. When a joint gets stuck, or moves in a way it shouldn’t, it can create tension on the surrounding nerves and muscles. That affects how you feel, how you move, and how your body functions overall. The adjustment is a precise, controlled movement designed to help correct that. It’s not random. It’s not rough. And it is absolutely not dangerous when performed by a trained professional.

Here’s another myth I want to tackle. A lot of people believe that once you start seeing a chiropractor, you have to go forever. I get it — I understand why people feel that way. But the truth is, care is always your choice. Some people come in for a specific issue — low back pain, neck stiffness, a headache pattern that won’t quit — and once that’s resolved, they’re done. Others discover they feel so much better with regular care that they choose to keep it up, kind of like going to the gym or getting regular dental cleanings. That’s what we call wellness care. But it is always, always your decision.

Now let’s talk about one more big one. Some people are afraid that chiropractic care isn’t safe. And I want to address that directly and honestly. Chiropractic is one of the most thoroughly studied forms of conservative care for musculoskeletal issues. It is widely recognized as a safe and effective first step for many types of back and neck pain. We go through years of rigorous training. We learn anatomy, physiology, neurology, and diagnostics. We know when chiropractic is the right fit — and we know when it’s not, and when to refer out.

So what can you do starting today? First, pay attention to how your body feels. Tension in your neck, tightness in your lower back, headaches that keep coming back — those are signals worth listening to. Second, move more. Gentle movement throughout your day keeps your joints happy and your muscles from locking up. And third, if something has been bothering you for more than a week or two, don’t just push through it. Get it evaluated.

That brings me to the when-to-come-in piece. If you’re dealing with back pain, neck pain, shoulder tension, headaches, or just that general feeling of being stiff and run down — that is exactly what we are here for. You don’t need to be in crisis mode to walk through our door. In fact, the sooner you come in, the easier it usually is to help you.

At Natural Ways Chiropractic, we take the time to really understand what’s going on with you. We listen. We explain everything. And we work with you to build a path forward that actually makes sense for your life.
